So I wrote the ad without compromise: <\/p><h2><em>\u201cI sell apartment! 100% private property.<br>Whoever wants it, pay, and in cash. If you don&#8217;t like it&#8230; you know what to do.\u201d  <\/em><\/h2><p>The response was immediate.<\/p><p>The offers came in, but so did some odd questions about whether the walls would hold flags or if there was room on the terrace for a statue.<\/p><p>The visits confirmed my suspicions:<\/p><p>People wearing \u201cEspa\u00f1a Una y Grande!\u201d t-shirts arrived enthusiastically, but they wanted a \u201cpatriotic discount\u201d. According to them, it was only logical that a good Spaniard would not charge so much to his own. As if the homeland could pay for them.  <\/p><p>Finally, I decided to withdraw the ad and get my apartment back.<\/p><p><strong>But when I returned, it was too late<\/strong>. A group of \u201cpatriotic tenants\u201d had already taken possession, calling themselves defenders of my property against \u201cexternal threats\u201d. <\/p><p>With an unexpected twist, I realized that private property can cease to be private property with certain \u201cdefenders\u201d at the door.
