Today I want to talk to you about the criteria that governs some real estate decisions.
People don’t usually like change, even though it may be good for them, they prefer to stay as they are using the argument “that’s the way it’s been done all their lives” as a maxim to which they cling senselessly.
But first, let me tell you that my wife is from Santander and we spend our summers in a village in Cantabria. It’s her great-grandmother’s house and we can’t be better off.
To escape the heat of Zaragoza to sleep with a blanket in summer is priceless.
Villages have their own laws and many of them are not understood when you are an urbanite.
Some cowboys live next to our house. They used to keep their cows on the ground floor of the house, you know, for warmth. For years now, it is no longer allowed to have both uses. They now have their stables in sheds far away from the houses. For once in my life, I am grateful for the regulations. When the cows accompanied us, in addition to the “smell of the countryside”, many flies also accompanied us.
Well, that time has passed.
But, as I said, people have their “own laws”.
They are not disputed even if they are inadmissible.
To protect themselves from curious visitors, the neighbours have two dogs.
So far, so normal. Dogs sometimes also do this work in cities.
But being very observant, I noticed a detail that struck me.
We start from the assumption that we are talking about people who live off animals.
Which makes what I am about to tell you even more incomprehensible.
They have cows whose udders they squeeze to extract milk. That’s what an animalist would say, but I’m not.
Livestock farming is necessary and being a denialist seems to me to be a ridiculous position.
But let’s get back to the watchdogs.
It so happens that they are tied up 24/7.
They arenever untied. They are never walked and they relieve themselves in the same square metre where they eat. It’s very cruel. But that’s the way it is in the villages.
In fact, I asked and they told me that, if I complained to any shelter, there would be no response. They don’t even come close. It is the law of the village and the inhabitants accept it as normal. It has been this way all their lives and, I fear, it will continue to be this way. It is wrong but nobody is doing anything to change it.
There are many things that have been done in real estate marketing for decades. Some of them are not done well. The only argument for continuing to do them is that “that’s the way it ‘s been done all my life”.
If that’s enough for you, I won’t be the one to try to make you change.
But if you are able to reflect, take a step forward and improve, then we could meet.
